The waves off Waupoose, Ontario, had been brutal the day before. Ryan Pugh of Hoard Of The Rings gave it everything he had trying to recover a lost family heirloom for Amanda’s daughter, but the violent swells eventually forced him out of the water. He didn’t leave empty-handed, though—he had locked onto a promising, rock-solid 17 on his Minelab Manticore before conditions turned unworkable.
Fast forward to today: fresh off a quick, successful ring recovery at Sandbanks Provincial Park,
we drove right back to Ryan’s target site in Waupoose to finish what he had started.
This time around, Lake Ontario was completely cooperative—crystal clear and calm as a millpond. Since I was already geared up with my Nokta Simplex Ultra, Nokta Accupoint pinpointer, weight belt, and trusty Pull Tab Gear scoop, I waded out into the shallows.
I headed straight to the spot Ryan mapped out yesterday.
Within two minutes, my Simplex Ultra hit a crisp, repeatable target right in that same pocket—ringing up a solid 23.
I took a breath, used the weight belt to anchor down, and dove under the surface. Blindly reaching into the sand, I scooped the target, broke the surface, and cleared the debris. Resting in my hand was the prize: a beautiful gold ring set with a small diamond.
Ryan and I walked up the beach together to meet Amanda and her husband, handing back the ring her daughter thought was gone for good. A fast recovery, an incredible outcome, and another very happy family reunited with their treasure.
