Some recovery calls hit different. When the phone rang at 6:00 PM yesterday while I was finishing up my shift, I could hear the sheer desperation on the other end of the line.
The story came from Rishabh, a Canadian Navy member, and his wife, Prachi, an ophthalmologist who had just moved to Canada three months ago after their wedding in February. This weekend was their very first getaway together—a chance to relax, take in the scenery, and spend quality time on the beautiful shores of Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County.
As they were packing up to leave the beach, Prachi reached over to brush some loose sand off Rishabh’s back. In a split second, she felt her gold and diamond engagement ring slide off her finger and vanish into the sand.

Determined to reunite Prachi with her ring before the morning crowds shifted the sand further, Ryan Pugh and I left Kingston early today. We caught the Glenora Ferry across to Prince Edward County and rolled into Sandbanks Provincial Park, meeting Rishabh and Prachi right at the beach access by 9:00 AM.
After a short walk through the dunes, they led us directly to the spot where they had been relaxing the afternoon before.
I powered up the Nokta Simplex Ultra and began a systematic grid scan across the zone. Just minutes into the search, the detector locked onto a crisp, solid target signal amidst the mineralized sand.
I scooped, checked the basket, and there it was—sparkling in the morning sun.
By 9:30 AM, just ten minutes after turning the machine on, the ring was back on Prachi’s finger where it belonged. Seeing the relief and joy on their faces made the early morning trek worth every second. It was an honor to help this couple save their first Canadian getaway memory!
