The Loss: A Slip Off the Rocky Pier
Late yesterday afternoon, Abdullah reached out to Ontario Ring Recovery Services in a state of distress. While fishing off the rocky pier at the foot of Elm Street in Kingston, his platinum wedding ring slipped off his finger and plunged straight into Lake Ontario.
Anyone who knows the Elm Street pier knows the terrain is built on heavy boulders and jagged rock, the underwater environment creates deep, treacherous crevices. When an item falls in, it usually slips into a dark gap where standard surface searches or magnets are useless.
When Abdullah called, we were completely honest with him. Both Carlos, (one of our top local diver detectorists)—and I, told Abdullah, “finding this ring would be like finding a needle in a haystack
If the platinum band fell into a deep, unreachable gap between massive boulders, it could be permanently unrecoverable”.
Abdullah remained hopeful, convinced it could still be found, and asked us to try.
The Recovery: Diving the Elm Street Rocks
Carlos has been leading many of our recent deep-water recoveries in depths of five feet and beyond. In fact, just yesterday morning, he was in the water recovering a gold ring for Taylor in Bath, Ontario.

Early this morning, Carlos headed to the Elm Street pier in Kingston, suited up in his full diving attire, and entered the water armed with his waterproof Minelab Excalibur metal detector.
Nature was on our side. The conditions were ideal—calm, crystal-clear water provided excellent underwater visibility along the rock faces. They were covered in thick weeds, moss, and aelgie. Still, the wind was down and visability was 40plus FT.
Carlos systematically worked the base of the pier, carefully maneuvering his detector coil into the tight spots along the underwater boulder line where heavy items settle.
In less than an hour, Carlos picked up the crisp, distinct target signal of heavy platinum resting amongst the rocks. Working the signal carefully, he reached into the crevice and pulled up Abdullah’s ring!
The Result: Reunited
When we broke the news to Abdullah, he couldn’t believe his ears. Going from thinking his wedding ring was lost to the bottom of Lake Ontario to holding it back in his hands within less than 24 hours was an overwhelming relief.
