Not every recovery happens on dry land, and sometimes a simple referral turns into an unforgettable rescue mission.
This particular story began when Stephane Coutu received a distress call about a woman who had accidentally dropped her cell phone into shallow, murky water while at a camp in southern Ontario.
Because Stephane was unable to make it out to the site himself, he generously passed the lead along to Ryan and I. When neither Ryan nor I were able to make the trip out either, I knew just who to call.

Navigating the Murky Waters
The woman met Julie at the location, where they hopped into a canoe and paddled out to the exact spot where the phone went overboard. Equipped with her trusty Minelab Manticore metal detector, Julie meticulously gridded the area. After receiving a strong, promising signal from her machine, she reached down into the murky river up to her shoulders and pulled out the missing cell phone!
To everyone’s absolute astonishment, after days of being submerged, the phone was still powered on.
An Emotional Reunion
Following an emotional and joyful reunion with her device, Julie and the woman canoed back to the parking lot area, wrapping up a successful mission with a very happy client.
