Imagine the sinking feeling of looking down at your hand only to realize your wedding band—a symbol of your marriage, engraved with your special date—slipped off into the water of a crowded beach.
For one unfortunate visitor to Outlet Beach at Sandbanks Provincial park, near Picton, Ontario, that nightmare became a reality. But thankfully, the story didn’t end in the sand.
In a thrilling new video titled “Finding LOST GOLD at OUTLET BEACH! Returned to Owner!“, metal-detecting enthusiast and content creator from Hoard of the Rings – Ryan Pugh went out & tackled one of his biggest water recoveries yet [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq2Y4uXZCao].
The Hunt: Gridding the Waters
Equipped with a MineLab Manticore and a Pull Tab Gear Pro Series Scoop, Ryan Pugh waded into the waters of Outlet Beach where a 14-karat gold wedding band was reportedly lost just a day prior.

Working between knee-deep and thigh-deep water, the mission required extreme patience.
Meticulously gridding out the water with overlapping passes, the challenge grew exponentially as a bustling summer crowd began to fill the beach around him.
After pulling up a few false alarms—including a random piece of foil and a “toonie” to help pay for the park fee, time was running out.

With water levels reaching nearly waist-high and ready to throw in the towel on that specific stretch, a loud, clear signal suddenly rang out.
The Miracle Moment

Scooping into the sandy bottom, he checked the contents and spotted the glint of gold. After Closer inspection revealed the exact wedding inscription and date he was looking for!
Ryan told me, “Once I got something loud, we’d be in business… I was just about to leave this area and extend further to the east!”
Elated, he rushed to share the good news with some beachgoers who had been cheering him on earlier, before heading back to shore to make the fateful phone call to the owner in Ottawa.

After building up just a tiny bit of suspense, Ryan broke the incredible news: the ring was indeed safe and coming home.
Back Where It Belongs
Later that same day, the owner and his partner made the trip from Ottawa to Kingston to meet the Ryan in person. Seeing the sheer relief and joy on the owner’s face when the ring was safely handed back is what makes treasure hunting truly special.
